According to reports from Sky Sports, The Athletic and BBC Sport on Friday, July 24, 2026, the two London clubs have concluded negotiations, with Lacroix now scheduled to undergo a medical in London before completing his move to Stamford Bridge.
The 26-year-old centre-back is expected to sign a long-term contract until 2032, making him one of Chelsea's key defensive signings under new manager Xabi Alonso. Sources indicate that Chelsea booked the medical for Friday and personal terms are not expected to be an issue. The transfer fee is reported as £52 million, which is around $69 million or €60 million, with the deal finalised at ownership level between Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali and Palace chairman Steve Parish.
Lacroix joined Crystal Palace from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in August 2024 for £18 million and quickly became a central figure in the team's defence. In two seasons at Selhurst Park, he made 98 appearances and played a key role as Palace won the FA Cup, Community Shield and the UEFA Conference League. In the 2025-26 season alone, he made 55 appearances, scoring three goals and providing three assists, highlighting his consistency.
Standing at 6ft 4in (190cm), Lacroix is known for his aerial strength, recovery pace and ability to play in both a back four and a back three. During the 2025-26 Premier League season, he was the only player to record at least 50 tackles, 200 duels won and 250 clearances. His performances earned him a call-up to the France national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he made three appearances, including the third-place playoff against England.
Chelsea have made strengthening central defence a priority this summer after missing out on European football last season. The club has already signed Marco Palestra and Morgan Rogers, while also agreeing pre-contract deals for Emmanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda.
