Spain Beat Argentina 1-0 to Win 2026 FIFA World Cup as Ferran Torres Scores Extra-Time Winner

Spain have been crowned champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating defending champions Argentina 1-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

After 90 minutes failed to produce a goal, the final went into extra time. The decisive moment came in the 106th minute when substitute Ferran Torres found the back of the net to hand Spain victory.

The goal capped a dominant display by La Roja, who controlled possession and limited Argentina to very few chances. According to reports, Torres converted a cutback from Nico Williams from close range to break the deadlock.

Spain's winner came after Argentina were reduced to 10 men following Enzo Fernandez's red card late in the second half, a turning point that allowed Spain to push forward in extra time.

The victory marks Spain's second World Cup title, ending a 16-year wait since their first triumph in 2010 when Andres Iniesta also scored an extra-time winner against the Netherlands. Spain were dominant throughout the tournament, conceding only one goal in eight matches on their way to the title.

For Argentina and Lionel Messi, it was a heartbreaking end. The final was billed as potentially Messi's last World Cup match, and Argentina failed to register a shot on target in 120 minutes against Spain's disciplined defense.

Ferran Torres, who had struggled for goals earlier in the tournament, was named Man of the Match after scoring the decisive goal. His strike in the 106th minute secured Spain's place back on top of world football.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente praised his team's patience and control after the match, while over 80,000 fans packed the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford to witness the final.

Spain 1-0 Argentina - Ferran Torres 106' - is now the official result that will go down in World Cup history.
