The All Progressives Congress has fixed Saturday, August 22, 2026, for its primary elections to elect candidates for four recently restored State House of Assembly constituencies and for several legislative bye-elections across the country.
The date was contained in the party's official timetable and schedule of activities signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and released on Wednesday.
According to the party, the timetable was issued following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to restore four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States.
The constituencies listed in Delta State are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II, while Yagba West II was listed in Kogi State.
The schedule also covers bye-elections into vacant seats in four states. They include Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.
The APC said it has officially released its timetable for the conduct of primaries for the restored constituencies and the 2026 legislative bye-elections.
Under the timetable, the sale of forms will begin on Tuesday, August 18 and end on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The last day for the submission of completed forms and accompanying documents is Thursday, August 20.
The party fixed Friday, August 21 for the screening of aspirants, publication of screening results and hearing of screening appeals. The primary election will hold on Saturday, August 22, while appeals arising from the primary will be heard on Monday, August 24.
For State House of Assembly aspirants, the party fixed N1 million for the expression of interest form and N5 million for the nomination form, bringing the total to N6 million. For House of Representatives aspirants, the expression of interest form is N1 million and the nomination form is N9 million, totaling N10 million.
The party added that female aspirants, youths and physically challenged aspirants will pay for the expression of interest form and 50 percent of the prescribed nomination fee. It also stated that all payments should be made in full directly into the designated bank account of the All Progressives Congress.
The restoration of the constituencies follows court judgments implemented by INEC. The affected constituencies had been suppressed for years, leaving residents without direct representation in their respective State Houses of Assembly. The APC timetable also covers the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat which became vacant following the death of lawmaker Tongo Yaya.
