In the first semifinal, Malawi continued its remarkable debut run with a 3-1 win over Algeria. In the second match, Cameroon advanced past Morocco 3-1 on penalties following a goalless draw in front of more than 19,000 fans at the Moulay Al Hassan Stadium.
All four semifinalists have qualified for next summer's FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. For Malawi and Algeria, it will mark their first-ever appearance at the tournament. Morocco will be making its second World Cup appearance after reaching the Round of 16 in 2023, while Cameroon returns after featuring in the 2015 and 2019 editions.
Malawi, ranked 153rd in the world and competing in WAFCON for the first time, was led by the Chawinga sisters in the opening semifinal against Algeria.
Algeria was reduced to 10 players in the 23rd minute when Morgane Belkhiter was shown a red card for a foul on Tabitha Chawinga, who plays for Lyon in France.
Tabitha Chawinga opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a left-footed strike that hit the underside of the crossbar and crossed the line to give the Scorchers the lead.
Temwa Chawinga, who plays for Kansas City Current in the National Women's Soccer League, doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time. She rounded the Algerian goalkeeper Chloe N'Gazi to score her fifth goal of the tournament.
Malawi was also reduced to 10 players shortly after, when Rose Kadzere was sent off for a challenge on Marine Dafeur, leaving both sides with 10 players for the remainder of the contest.
Algeria pulled one back in the 60th minute through Ikram Adjabi, but Tabitha Chawinga restored the two-goal advantage in the 76th minute, finishing through the legs of a defender to make it 3-1 and seal a place in the final.
In the second semifinal, host nation Morocco dominated possession but could not find a breakthrough against a resilient Cameroon defence.
The decisive moments came in the penalty shootout and late in extra time. During the second period of extra time, Cameroon defender Myriam Maeva Nyadjou fouled Sakina Ouzraoui in the penalty area. After a video review, Morocco was awarded a penalty, but goalkeeper Michaely Bihina saved Fatima Tagnaout's effort to keep the match level.
In the shootout, Bihina saved three Moroccan penalties, and Nyadjou converted the winning kick to send Cameroon to the final at the fourth attempt.
DailyVista247 gathered that Cameroon had reached the semifinals after a 1-0 victory over Nigeria, marking only its second win over Nigeria in 14 WAFCON meetings, a result that boosted confidence in the squad.
The four teams that lost in the quarterfinals still have a path to the World Cup. Nigeria will play South Africa and Ghana will face Ivory Coast in Casablanca on Thursday, with the winners moving on to the intercontinental playoff round.
Cameroon will now meet debutants Malawi in Sunday's final in Rabat, with both teams having already secured qualification for the Women's World Cup in Brazil next summer.
