The telecommunications company issued the advisory on Saturday through its official support account on X, formerly Twitter, urging customers to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudulent links circulating online.
According to the company, some unverified websites and social media posts are circulating links that claim to provide a 25GB anniversary data package. MTN clarified that these links are not from the company and should be ignored, stressing that such claims are misleading and potentially harmful to unsuspecting users.
The company stated that the official anniversary data offer is available only through its verified platforms, which are the MyMTN NG App and the MTN eShop. It explained that any promotion outside these channels should be regarded as fake and disregarded immediately by subscribers.
In its statement, MTN urged customers not to click on unknown links, share personal information, or make any form of payment on unofficial websites promising the anniversary package. It emphasized that customers should only trust information from its official channels and verified social media handles to avoid data theft or financial loss.
MTN also explained how eligible subscribers can access the legitimate offer. Customers are expected to log in to the MyMTN App and tap on the anniversary banner that displays "Redeem Now" or visit the MTN eShop and follow the instructions provided on the platform to claim their data.
Eligible customers who received an SMS notification about the offer can also use the link contained in the official message to activate the bundle, provided the sender is verified as MTN Nigeria and the link directs to an official MTN domain.
The company further advised subscribers to check its verified social media pages and customer care channels for accurate information regarding the promotion and to report any suspicious links or messages claiming to be from MTN for investigation.
MTN noted that the free 25GB data bundle will remain valid until 11:59 pm on the stated expiry date and encouraged eligible customers to redeem it within the specified period to enjoy the benefits without delay.
The advisory comes following an increase in online posts promoting unauthorized data offers in the name of the company's 25th anniversary, with many users sharing unverified links across WhatsApp and Facebook groups.
Subscribers have been encouraged to avoid unofficial platforms that request personal details or payments in exchange for free data and to educate family members about the risks of clicking unknown links online.
