Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged illegal adoption facility in the Mowe area of the state and rescued pregnant women and children.
The command also said it arrested six suspects in connection with the incident.
The command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Babaseyi said the operation was carried out at about 8am on Monday, August 24, at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, following sustained intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
He stated that two pregnant women and four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were rescued during the operation.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects arrested include a 58-year-old woman, a 63-year-old woman, and four other individuals, including an attending nurse who was taken into custody for questioning.
DailyVista247 gathered that further intelligence-led operations took police operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another woman had reportedly given birth to a baby on August 20.
The police said the woman was found receiving medical treatment at the hospital, but the whereabouts of her newborn could not be immediately established, prompting further investigation.
The statement noted that efforts are ongoing to locate the infant and to determine the circumstances surrounding the birth.
The command said the case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The spokesperson said investigators will work to establish the full extent of the alleged syndicate's activities and ensure the prosecution of any suspect found culpable in accordance with the law.
Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command's commitment to tackling human trafficking and other forms of crime.
The CP further urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police by providing timely and credible information. He assured that the command will sustain intelligence-led policing to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens.
The police command also advised members of the public to report suspicious activities around them and to avoid patronizing unregistered health facilities and adoption centres.
The command reiterated that it remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to clamp down on criminal activities across the state.
