Troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded multiple successes in the North-West, including the rescue of kidnap victims, the prevention of an abduction attempt, and the interception of motorcycles suspected to be meant for criminal groups.
The operations were carried out on July 19 and 20 across Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi States as part of ongoing efforts to restore security in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the achievements were the result of intelligence-led operations designed to restrict the movement of armed groups and cut off their supply lines.
Abduction Attempt Foiled in Zamfara
Lieutenant Colonel Danja disclosed that on July 20, troops acted on a distress call from residents of Shiyan Abiyola community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
He said suspected terrorists had attempted to abduct civilians from a residential building. The quick response of the troops forced the suspects to abandon their plan and flee the area. Several residents were rescued unhurt during the intervention.
Following the incident, troops remained in the area to maintain security and prevent any further attempt by the criminals to regroup.
Three Farm Workers Rescued in Katsina
In a separate operation on July 19, troops on patrol in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State rescued three persons who had earlier been abducted.
The victims were said to have escaped from a hideout after taking advantage of heavy rainfall while their captors were asleep.
Preliminary findings revealed that they were kidnapped on July 14 while working on their farmlands in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescued persons were evacuated safely and handed over to the relevant authorities for medical checks and reunification with their families.
Motorcycles Intercepted in Kebbi
Also on July 19, troops conducting a routine stop-and-search operation in Kebbi State intercepted a vehicle conveying 10 motorcycles.
The motorcycles are suspected to have been procured to support the activities of terrorist groups operating in the North-West.
Further investigation led to the arrest of four additional suspects who were allegedly sent to take delivery of the motorcycles on behalf of a known collaborator.
The suspects and the recovered motorcycles are currently in military custody while investigations continue.
The Theatre Command of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their professionalism, alertness and timely response, noting that the operations have contributed to reducing criminal activities in the theatre.
It also appealed to members of the public to remain security conscious and to continue sharing credible information with security agencies to support ongoing operations.
