Makinde made the announcement on Thursday during the elective national convention of the party held at Rilwanu Adamu Square, Government House, Bauchi, where party delegates gathered to ratify key decisions ahead of the general election.
According to the party, Daura will replace Ibrahim Bala, who was earlier named as a placeholder running mate pending the conclusion of consultations and screening for the vice-presidential slot.

Speaking on the choice of his running mate, the Oyo governor said Daura was selected based on his experience in security management and his capacity to contribute to national security discussions and intelligence reforms.
At the same convention, Yusuf Dantalle was re-elected as the National Chairman of the party for another term, with a mandate to strengthen the structure of the APM across all geopolitical zones.
Addressing delegates at the convention ground, Makinde said the focus for the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections should go beyond winning an election. He said the priority should be to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative and a clear plan for improving livelihoods.
He noted that the party has grown within a short period to become a notable opposition platform and urged the newly elected leadership to work with other opposition parties to strengthen democratic competition and accountability.
The task before us is bigger than winning an election. It is to give Nigerians a real choice about the future of their country, Makinde said. The presence of a credible opposition is what sustains democracy and keeps government accountable to the people.
The Oyo State governor added that the 2027 campaigns should be centered on measurable outcomes and practical impact on citizens' lives, rather than just policy announcements without implementation details.
He said governance should be assessed by how it affects everyday experiences such as purchasing power, job opportunities, agricultural productivity, and public safety across communities.
He further stated that families evaluate security by their ability to live, work, farm, and travel without fear, and that economic policies should be judged by what citizens can afford in the market and not by statistics alone.
The APM presidential candidate also called for a review of the current federal structure to allow more decisions and resources to be managed closer to the people, with greater accountability for results at state and local levels. He identified trust between citizens and leaders as a key issue that needs to be addressed urgently.
In his remarks, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who was inaugurated as the national leader of the party at the event, expressed support for the Makinde-Daura ticket. He described Makinde as a capable candidate and said the party aims to provide inclusive governance if elected into office.
Mohammed added that his new role as national leader comes with significant responsibility and pledged to support the growth and expansion of the movement ahead of the 2027 general election.
